Dear Masters, Instructors, Students, and Parents,

It is my great honour and pleasure to invite you to participate in Saint John Taekwondo’s 1st Annual Showdown, hosted by Master IlGwon Jang. This WT-style tournament will take place on Saturday, May 9th, 2026, at the Lord Beaverbrook Rink, located at 536 Main Street, in Saint John, NB.

This tournament is organized to provide athletes of all ages and belt levels with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, discipline, and sportsmanship in a professional and supportive competitive environment. Our goal is to promote excellence, confidence, and growth while strengthening the Taekwondo community throughout the region.

Competition and Equipment Information

All sparring competitors (colour belt, recreational black belt, and H.P black belt) will use the Daedo Gen 2 PSS system. Daedo socks will be available for Black Belt competitors if needed but sizes are limited so bringing your own is recommended. Mouth Guard and Groin Protection is mandatory.

We ask all coaches and instructors to ensure the accuracy of the submitted weight of their sparring competitors. Accurate weight information is essential to prevent delays, as incorrect weight entries may require divisions and brackets to be reorganized.

Sparring

• NEW WT RULES IN EFFECT
• All Coloured belt matches will be 3 rounds/1 minute each/30sec rest.
• All Black belt matches will be 3 rounds/1.5 minutes each/45sec rest.
• Colour belts: total score with 20-point gap in Round 3; Black belts: best of 3 rounds.

Poomsae

• Colour belts: perform WT Taeguk 1–8 at their level (±1 belt allowed).
• Black belts: perform one Black Belt poomsae (up to Hansu) and one Taeguk (6–8) of their choice.

Divisions and Registration Requirements

Divisions will include sparring and poomsae for eligible competitors across various belt levels and age categories. All matches will follow standard World Taekwondo competition rules and will be supervised by certified referees and officials to ensure fairness and safety.

Black Belt competitors who wish to compete in poomsae must select the combined poomsae and sparring registration option and must also indicate their chosen black belt sparring category (Rec or H.P).

Timeline

• Doors open at 8AM for athlete ID collection.
• ID Collection will be between 8AM-9AM.
• Poomsae will start at 9AM, Sparring to follow.
• Tournament End Time will be approximately 5PM.

Registration Fees

• Poomsae only: $60
• Sparring only (Color Belt or Black Belt – Recreational & High Performance): $70
• Combined Poomsae and Sparring: $80
• Spectator admission fee: $5
• All fees must be cash or e-transferred at ilgwonjang1985@gmail.com
• All Taekwondo schools must send one payment for all their students. E-transfer or cash. Cash payments can be made on the day of the tournament.

Important Registration Notice

All registration must be completed before the registration deadline. DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION IS APRIL 27^TH 2026. There will be no registration accepted at the door. Complete and accurate registrations are required to ensure a smooth and professional tournament experience.
